St. Paul & Malta Around the year 62 AD St. Paul was taken prisoner in Jerusalem and was being transported to Rome for trial. His ship was wrecked on Malta where he was kept prisoner for the winter. The Maltese people showed him unusual kindness and were converted to Christianity. (Acts chapters 27 & 28.) |

Itinerary and (Optional) Programme 2005
Day 1
- THURSDAY
9.30 am Check-in at the South Terminal, Gatwick
Airport.
11.30 am Our Air Malta Boeing 737 takes off.
3.45 pm (Maltese time) Land at Luqa Airport and by coach to our hotel in
Sliema.
5.45 pm Mass in the local Dominican church.
7.00 pm DINNER in our hotel followed by a short get together and then if you wish, a walk along the sea front.
NOTE:- See below for our 11th March and 14th October flights which
have been upgraded to London Heathrow.
Day 2
- FRIDAY
8.30 am We leave the hotel by coach for Valletta and the Collegiate Church of St. Paul’s Shipwreck
for our Mass. We will see the reliquary of St. Paul’s Arm.
10.00 am Audio visual “Sacred Island” telling the story of Malta followed by tea/coffee and cakes. (Cost included) Close by are the
Upper Barracca Gardens and the magnificent view of
The Grand Harbour.
11.00 am We will visit the Armory of the Grand Masters Palace and if the
Parliament is not sitting the Palace Courtyard and State Rooms including the famous Gobelin Tapestries, the Main Corridor and the Grand Council Chamber.
1.30 pm (Optional) boat tour of the Sliema and Grand Harbour seeing both the historical and modern sites.
Day 3
- SATURDAY
8.30 am Our coach leaves the hotel for Mosta & it’s
Rotunda Church. It was built 1833 in the form of the Roman Pantheon & had a miraculous escape from a bomb.
10.00 am We continue to Rabat for our Mass in St. Paul’s Grotto where he was held prisoner after the ship wreck. Then to 7th century
St. Paul’s Catacombs and lunch in the Grapes Restaurant (Cost included)
1.45 pm We walk into the adjacent walled town of Mdina which was the capital of Malta from Roman times.
Day 4
- SUNDAY
9.00 am Our coach leaves for The Shrine of Our Lady, Mellieha and the church carved into the rock. St. Luke portrait of our Blessed Lady has been the source of many graces and
favors.
10.45 am We arrive at St. Paul’s Bay and (weather permitting) take a boat across to
St. Paul’s Island, the traditional site of his ship wreck for our open air Mass.
2.30 pm We drive back across Malta to Senglea Point where we can enjoy the magnificent harbour view.
3.00 pm Our coach arrives at the town of Birgu, Vittoriosa Central. We walk down to and visit the
Inquisitors Palace, the Valletta Reliquary Museum and the
Church of St Lawrence and pray the Rosary. This was the original conventual church of the Knights of St. John and was built in 1530.
4.30pm We rejoin our coach by the water side and the Freedom Monument commemorating the replacing of the British flag with the Maltese. Back to Senglea and the Parish
Church of our Lady of Victories with the statue of Maria Bambina and the Miraculous statue of Jesus the Redeemer.
Day 5
- MONDAY
8.00 am Our Coach takes us to Cirkewwa and the half hour ferry crossing to
Gozo. At Ghajnsielem a coach awaits to take us to the
Basilica of Ta’ Pinu. The miraculous painting of the Assumption spoke to Karmela Grima in 1883 asking her to recite three Hail Mary’s. Pope John Paul II pilgrimaged to the Ta’ Pino in May, 1990.
11.00 am Mass in the central Chapel by the miraculous picture
12 noon Our coach will take us to Xlendi stopping at the wool shops at
Fontana on the way. Lunch (cost included) at St. Patrick’s hotel.
2.00 pm We visit Victoria the capital of Gozo, the fortified
Citadel (dating from Roman times) & the Cathedral.
3.45 pm Our ferry sails back to Cirkewwa, Malta and our coach to take us back to
Sliema.
Day 6
- TUESDAY
9.00 am (Optional) day excursion to the prehistoric Tarxien Temples built around 3000 BC and known for the famous “Fat ladies”. After a view of the
Blue Grotto we stop at the cliff top Hagar Qim stone temple built around 3600
BC. Lunch in the “Harbour Lights” restaurant (Cost included) and some shopping in the market of the
Marsaxlokk fishing village. Finally we visit the Ghar dalem cave which was inhabited by stone age humans around 4000 BC.
NOTE:- Mass will be arranged in the church of Our Lady in Marsaxlokk or in Sliema according to the wishes of the group.
Day 7
- WEDNESDAY
9.00 am Our coach leaves for Grand Gate of Valletta and we walk the short distance to the
Co-Cathedral of St. John. The Cathedral was built by the Knights of St. John as their Conventual church in 1573/8.
10.00 am Mass in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. After Mass we will be shown round the Cathedral and for a small entrance fee we may also visit it’s famous Oratory museum and collection of church ornaments, vestments and
Flemish tapestries. It’s treasure though is the famous Caravaggio's painting, The Beheading of St. John.
2.15 pm Our coach will take us back to Sliema for our afternoon at leisure
7.00 pm Dinner and as this is our last evening, we may get together in the hotel conference room to meet and for night prayer.
Day 8
- THURSDAY
6.30 am We leave the hotel by coach for the airport.
7.05 am Latest time for check-in, Malta’s Luqu airport.
8.05 am Our Air Malta flight no KM116 takes off.
10.30 am (UK time) We land at London Gatwick
Airport.
NOTE:-
Flights may be changed or upgraded to London Heathrow
Most of our groups stay in The Hotel Plevna (3 star) in
Sliema. All rooms have en suite private facilities, direct dial telephone, satellite TV and tea/coffee making facilities with tea bags & coffee provided. Meals are on a buffet/severy style as there is usually a choice of starters and of three main courses. On two or three evenings there will be light entertainment music in the homely bar. The hotel also has it’s own private beach lido with pool, sun terrace & bar at the sea shore 50 yards away from the main hotel. (closes winter - mid October to 1st. May) Our other hotels are similar and should your particular group be staying elsewhere, we will send you information of that Hotel |

there is a discount of £180.00 on Pilgrimages
departing on a Monday to Thursday and £190 on Pilgrimages departing on
Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
